Most biologist and ecologist pretty much agree, that the loss of one species wont effect much of anything else. Polar bear are not going extinct. They have not been put on any list. They are a species of concern due to the polar ice caps melting. Here is something most people don't know. During the previous warm period, that would be the one that ended near the beginning of the last Ice Age, temperatures got warmer than they are now. Polar bear survived the last polar ice melt cause by that warming. There is no reason to believe they wont survive this one. There is something that is of concern. The shipping companies are discussing opening a sea lane through the Arctic Ocean. That could be a possible nightmare. Not only for polar bear, but for the whole Arctic system.
